Enrichment

At Sunny Bank Primary School, our curriculum extends beyond the National Curriculum and includes a wide range of enriching experiences and opportunities both within and beyond the school day. Our primary focus when planning enrichment opportunities is to raise aspirations, support personal and social development and to provide children with a sense of personal pride in achievement; ensuring our pupils are happy, challenged, proud and successful.

In addition to our exciting Learning Challenge curriculum, we also provide further opportunities to enrich children’s learning wherever possible. These include:

Whole School Theme Days/Weeks

Throughout the year, themed days/weeks are woven into the curriculum to extend the breadth and balance of opportunities we offer our pupils. These include: Black History Month, Anti-bullying Week, Internet Safety Week and World Book Day.

Educational Visits and Residentials

Carefully planned school trips and visits develop our pupils’ learning experiences further. Educational visits are planned to give children first-hand experiences and apply their understanding to a wider context. Many of our educational visits are linked to our topic areas and provide ‘wow’ moments. In addition, visits also include sporting events or activities with the school choir. Children in Year 6 take part in an annual residential visit; this is planned to provide exciting experiences which develop a range of skills including character building, teamwork and resilience.

Visitors into School

Visitors have a valuable role to play and contribute to our broad and balanced curriculum. Children have the opportunity to work alongside artists, authors, dancers and lots of other visitors that deliver talks, workshops and full day activities. Again, these visits enhance our curriculum and provide first-hand experiences which we know the children enjoy.

After-school Clubs

As a school we offer pupils opportunities to participate in extra-curricular activities after school. At any time, a wide range of clubs is on offer – our programmes of clubs and activities available is revised termly depending on the time of year. Ed Start and Bury Music Service provide clubs all year round, as well as specialist artists and scientists.

If you require any further information about our after-school clubs, please contact the school office.
